Beautiful 1952 MGTD, although it is titled as a 1953. Structurally and mechanically in very good condition with low mileage. Excellent chassis and wood floors (the body shell was assembled around the MG traditional way of using a wooden frame – coach built). Excellent panel fit and paint. Newish tan interior with matching dash covering. Original gauges and switches. Engine rebuilt by former owner during restoration (150 psi compression in every cylinder, 40 psi oil pressure when hot). Very good chrome, rubber trim, and minor details.
Restoration work included: new wheel cylinders and master cylinder, new fuel pump, new tach gearbox and cable (tach rebuilt), side curtains refurbished with new plastic, fuel tank cleaned, electronic ignition, plugs cleaned and set, valves and handbrake adjusted, oil and filter changed and chassis lubed, seat belts installed (racing), converted to negative ground. Currently running with Weber carburetor but have the original carbs as well. Even has a cigarette socket outlet to put in your USB devices.
This is style first, everything else second. It’s not that fast, and it doesn’t handle well compared to a modern car. But look at it, a classic, driven by the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Cary Grant.
In the words of NPR’s the Tappet Brothers: The only sensible reason to buy this car, as far as we can tell, is because you like the way it looks. Or, more precisely, you like the way you look in it. And how would you know how you look in an MG? The admiring glances, of course! On the occasional day when it actually does run, the sun is out, and you’re tootling down Memorial Drive, nothing could be better. And, when your drive is over and you pull into the driveway, you’ll also experience a tremendous sense of elation when you get out. Why? Because you lived.
